Optometrist
Duties and Responsibilities: Optometrist treats
vision problems. They treat vision problems by prescribing corrective
eyeglasses, contact lenses, or vision therapy. They are not physicians which
mean they cannot prescribe medical prescriptions, treat disease or perform
surgery. Most are self-employed, however
many work for hospitals, government agencies, and universities.
Salary: $78,000
Education: Students should take AP classes in
math, science, and English. You need two years of college in a pre- professional
program is required. Then they need to go to optometry school which is 4 years
long. After being rewarded the Degree of Doctor of Optometry, optometrists must
pass a state exam before staring practice.
Reflection: I would be interested
in being an optometrist because it sounds like an interesting career that pays
good money.
